Director, Criminal Legal Aid Scheme

Mr Pillai is the Director the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (“CLAS”) since 2015. He oversees the administration of the Scheme which provides criminal defence representation those who are unable to afford defence counsel in non-capital offences. Mr Pillai supervises the CLAS Fellowship comprised of four to five lawyers, and the two CLAS Advocates hired in 2016. Mr Pillai also works with various other stakeholders in the office’s collaboration with those involved in the migrant worker space
