Dechen Hyolmo Lama is a Lawyer and an LL.M graduate who is passionate about gender rights. She works with Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD), Nepal on a project that supports people without legal identity. She has been advocating for the right of women in Nepal to confer citizenship to their children which only the father could do previously. She has been actively engaged in the advocacy for the positive reformation in the citizenship act amendment bill. She recently filed a writ in the Supreme Court of Nepal regarding the birth registration right of the children. She is also involved in various research works on citizenship and legal identity in Nepal. Ms. Lama has been providing legal counseling to the person affected without legal identity documents. She has worked with different tiers of government, ministries and committees like public affairs committee in framing the citizenship law and policy. She has an abundant experience of working with the local and central government along with conducting sessions and training on legal identity issues.
