Most of his professional career has been devoted to criminal trial advocacy. After completing a mature student’s masters in human rights he embarked on a parallel volunteer career in the human rights movement. Co-founding the Solicitors International Human Rights that he later chaired for several years and is now its Director. He has led a range of missions including training, consultancy and trial observations. Throughout his career, he has kept one foot in education and today remains a visiting fellow to the London South Bank University where he has taught on the complex case management module of its masters in criminal litigation. He has pioneered many internet-based solutions to legal work and training; including a full online suite of international human rights training programmes aimed at activists based in Iran. He has undertaken several training missions on behalf of the UK Foreign Office, UNICEF and other international NGOs.
