Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman is the senior-most faculty member at the Department of Law, University of Dhaka. One of the forerunners of Clinical legal Education in Bangladesh, Dr. Rahman founded ELCOP in 1999 to bring legal education beyond the classroom. ELCOP received the South Asian Excellence Award for Legal Education in 2018 awarded jointly by the SILS and the Menon Institute. He developed the concept of ‘Rebellious Lawyering’ which challenges the existing norms of access to justice in Bangladesh to make it a pro-poor system. This year marks the 20th year of rebellious lawyering through Human Rights Summer School, a residential workshop for law students in the region. Dr. Rahman served as the Chair of National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh (2010-2016) and has worked as a consultant for many international organisations including UNICEF, ILO, UNDP, World Bank, and the European Commission. He received the Best Law Teacher in South Asia Award in 2010.
