Stephen McNamara is a consultant with the Tharthi Myay Foundation – which supports pro bono lawyers in Myanmar. Stephen is an English solicitor with over 36 years experience. Before law, he worked as a road sweeper, a psychiatric nurse and a lecturer in philosophy at Khartoum University. As a lawyer, he has been a university professor, a legal aid defence lawyer, a prosecutor, a childcare lawyer and a manager of a team of 75 government lawyers. He has drafted constitutions, investigated the misconduct of politicians and ran elections. He worked for a year as a volunteer with the MyJustice programme in Yangon. He believes that the energy of lawyers working together and supporting each other can bring about change.
