Screening: Nina & The Stolen Children of Timor-Leste
AJAR will screen its latest short documentary movie, “Nina & The Stolen Children of Timor-Leste”
In December 1975 East-Timor (Timor-Leste), was invaded by Indonesia and annexed as the country’s 27th province. An estimated 200,000 people are thought to have died as a result of repression, systematic violations and famine during the occupation, which lasted until 1999. Furthermore, an estimated 4000 children were forcefully taken from their families as child soldiers or to Indonesia during the occupation, according to the Timor-Leste Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation (CAVR). AJAR’s 30 minutes film portrays AJAR (and other’s) work in bringing a group of stolen children (now adults) back to meet with their families in May last year.
The film will be introduced by the AJAR team members. AJAR is a non-profit organisation, based in Jakarta, Indonesia, whose aim is to contribute to the strengthening of human rights and the alleviation of entrenched impunity in the Asia-Pacific region.
