Maxwell Abbott
Legal Researcher at Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation
Maxwell Abbott is a Legal Researcher with the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI). He supports capacity development for Indonesian legal aid services, performs research on legal aid impact and fulfillment of access to justice principles, engages in advocacy for expanded legal aid and access to justice programs, and is leading an effort to strengthen case management systems for Indonesian legal aid organizations. He has supported strategic human rights litigation at YLBHI by providing an international and comparative law perspective on cases before the Indonesian Supreme Court. Previously, he was a Legal Project Officer at BABSEACLE in Chiang Mai, Thailand where he drafted clinical legal education project proposals and progress reports for donors. He was also a Human Rights Researcher at the Indonesian Legal Resource Center, focusing on religious freedom and legal aid. Maxwell received a B.A. from the George Washington University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.
