Cultural Affairs Specialist at US Embassy Manila
Atty Pacamalan is the Cultural Affairs Specialist for Mindanao, Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy, Manila, Philippines (2009 to present). His duties & responsibilities include
- Design and implement educational and cultural programming for Southern Philippines, which include: Legal Aid Program; Street Law Program; International Visitors, Citizens Exchange (including but not limited to Youth Leadership), English Access Micro scholarship programs, and special funding on mitigating Islamic militancy;
- Designs project proposals to meet Washington’s public diplomacy initiatives in Mindanao.
- Provides advice to Public Affairs Officers s and other Embassy’s personnel on all aspects of the Embassy’s development initiatives in Mindanao, as well as on issues and needs affecting Mindanao that may present opportunities for new or expanded public diplomacy interventions; liaises with the Mindanao Working Groups, an inter-agency group of the Embassy and ; Maintains direct liaison with a wide range of high-level contacts including government officials, representatives from the academe, heads of national or local social/cultural institutions, etc.
- Plans (in close coordination with concerned Cultural Affairs staff counterpart), implements and evaluates Cultural Affairs programs for Mindanao to include the U.S. Speakers Program, American Studies Program, Small Democracy Grants Program, International Visitors Program.
- Works on creating and maintaining content for the virtual presence post- Mindanao, and on managing outreach efforts with the social media platform such as webcasts, online chats, etc .
