Sugeng Teguh Santoso

Sugeng Teguh Santoso graduated from the Faculty of Law University of Indonesia in Jakarta in 1991. In 1993, he established the Sugeng Teguh Santoso Law Office. In addition to his own law practice, he has founded and worked with a large number of human rights and legal aid institutions. In 1997, he founded the Association of Legal Aid and Human Rights of Indonesia (PBHI). Since 2005, he has been the Honorary Secretary of the Indonesian Bar Association (PERADI). He is the Chairman of Justice Foundation (YSK), succeeding to establish 3 local offices; Jakarta, Bogor Sukabumi. Moreover, he has been involved in a number of pro bono legal cases, such as defending the right to public water in Pandeglang, defending the rights of religious minority groups (Ahmadiyah, Syiah, Gafatar, forced closing of Church in Aceh Singkil) and women and children from violence, community organizing for the poor to access their rights, even further to assist litigation process of tax amnesty law.
